Nigel leaving American Idol
Guess Nigel is leaving Idol. Can't say I blame him.

Nigel LythgoeNigel Lythgoe is off "American Idol."
TMZ has learned Lythgoe, who has executive produced the show for seven seasons, has just taken himself off the program and will not return. No replacement has been named.
We're told Lythgoe felt it was time for someone else to step in. Sources say he's said privately he is "not passionate about it anymore." "A.I.'s" ratings slipped last season, and the show was getting a little boring.
We're also told Lythgoe is working on some kind of a joint venture with Simon Fuller, who created "Idol." Lythgoe wants to spend his time on "So You Think You Can Dance."

It will be most interesting to see what'll happen after this. Is he leavin coz the AI ship seems to be sinking or what? Don't really think AI is doing too badly ratings-wise so that should not be the reason.

Who is going to want to step in now though when the show is winding down? I'm sure when Simon pulls out in a couple years that will be it. And, btw, I loved this season. Last year was boring but I liked David Cook, Michael Johns , Jason Castro and Carly. And David A was a great singer and very popular. The rating may have been down, but it was still the top rated show. Nigel is very good in SYTYCD so I can see him wanting to put all his energies there.
